Air Conditioning Nambour

Nambour is 15km inland and regularly sits 3 to 5°C hotter than the coast in summer, with mid-afternoon peaks over 35°C. West-facing rooms typically need 15 to 25% more capacity than the m² calc suggests. The sea breeze reaches Nambour late, if at all, so the peak lasts into the early evening and the outdoor unit should be rated to hold its output at 40 degrees rather than derating from the mid-thirties.

Much of central Nambour is pre-1980 fibro or brick veneer with R1.5 ceiling insulation. Building envelope leaks heat quickly, so raw m² sizing under-quotes; insist on a load calc that accounts for the actual R-value. The high-set Queenslanders on the older streets are a separate case again, with VJ walls and no cavity, so pipe runs go under the floor or in external trunking and a ducted fan coil sits in a steep but usable roof void.

A lot of Nambour switchboards are 1960s to 80s with ceramic fuses. Ducted or multi-head installs often need a full switchboard upgrade ($1,200 to $2,500) or at minimum a dedicated sub-board, so confirm the quote itemises this. In Queensland that work needs a licensed electrician and a certificate of test, and the installer's QBCC and ARCtick licences do not cover it, so ask who is actually doing the electrical part.

Nambour's hillier streets (Piccabeen, Perwillowen, upper Currie) mean outdoor unit access is limited. Raised platforms and longer refrigerant runs add $200 to $500 versus a flat-block quote. Many of these houses are high-set on the downhill side, which gives a shaded position for the condenser under the floor, but the refrigerant lift from there to a fan coil in the roof needs to stay inside the manufacturer's limit.
