What We Check
NSW Fair Trading / state regulator licence number, ABN and presence on the quote.
Circuit count, RCBOs vs MCBs, main switch capacity, asbestos backing-board removal.
AS/NZS 3000 requires all circuits to be RCD-protected. We check coverage.
Cable type (TPS, V90), runs in metres, conduit, surface vs in-wall.
CCEW (NSW) or equivalent — required for prescribed electrical work.
Switchboard brand, accessory brand (Clipsal, HPM, etc.), branded vs generic.
Patching, painting, asbestos, scaffolding, after-hours premiums.
Hours/day rate, number of sparkies, weekend/after-hours, callout fees.
Stated or inferred rate compared to typical Australian ranges.
Point counts, lighting type (LED downlight, GU10, batten), dimmer compatibility.
Charger amp draw vs available switchboard capacity, dedicated circuit.
Lump sums, missing quantities, "by others", vague scope, no licence number.
Common Red Flags
No electrical licence number listed
Switchboard upgrade scope not itemised (circuits, RCDs, asbestos)
CCEW or compliance certificate not included
Cable lengths quoted as "lump sum" with no metres specified
Asbestos backing board not addressed in older switchboards
EV charger quote without switchboard capacity check
Excessive "additional materials TBC" line items
No mention of AS/NZS 3000 or Wiring Rules
Unrealistically low hourly rate (often hides material markup)
No insurance / public liability mention

FAQs
Yes. The quote audit tool is completely free. Upload your electrical quote and get a full breakdown at no cost.
A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is a legal document your electrician must issue after completing prescribed electrical work in NSW, certifying it complies with AS/NZS 3000. Other states have equivalent compliance certificates.
A standard residential switchboard upgrade typically costs $1,200–$3,500 depending on the number of circuits, RCD requirements, and whether asbestos backing-board removal is needed. Three-phase upgrades and Ausgrid metering changes can add $500–$1,500.
RCDs (safety switches) detect earth leakage and cut power to prevent electrocution. AS/NZS 3000 requires all circuits to be RCD-protected in new and altered installations. Many older homes have only one or no RCDs — adding them is one of the most common recommendations in our audits.
Yes. All electrical work in Australia must be performed by a licensed electrician. Each state has its own licensing body — for example NSW Fair Trading in NSW, Energy Safe Victoria in Victoria, Electrical Safety Office in Queensland.
Level 2 Accredited Service Providers can connect and disconnect properties from the network grid (Ausgrid, Endeavour, Essential). They're required for service mains upgrades, meter changes, and overhead-to-underground service conversions. Standard A-grade electricians cannot do this work.
